We’re not going to lose to T&T. They are in worse trouble than us now.
Guatemala will clog up the middle and give us a hard time. But recall two teams come out of the group. It’ll be us and Guatemala.
But Guatemala can beat us under the right circumstance. No doubt about it. So we do need to improve pretty rapidly.

Actually surprised to see Ching on board but since I’m a homer, go Dynamo! What has EJ done to deserve a perpetual roster spot? He’s tied for goals this year with yours truly and I haven’t played in the last four games. It appears that Michael Bradley will also be a fixture in mid-field despite not looking anywhere near his club form. The best thing that could happen to that kid is his Dad getting fired. He’s drowning in the bucket.

People just need to accept the fact that Jozy’s not playing anything until July 1st. There’s no way anyone lets the $8M boy risk injury before paperwork is signed and a deal is completed. We don’t need him for Barbados, calm down.

The opponent doesn’t matter.
These are World Cup qualifiers which means you choose your best squad. Thus it must be assumed Altidore is considered a work in progress by Bradley and not one of our 20 core players.
That’s fine with me. His play with Red Bull this year has been at best unspectacular and at worst plain awful.

Bradley will claim that Dempsey, Adu and Donovan can all play striker, but who is he kidding.
We’re going to rely on our midfield to score goals much like we have for the two years since Brian McBride’s retirement.
Bradley has no method to his madness. Rico Clark gets selected for friendlies then doesn’t make the team, Nate Jaqua is taken to England and Spain but hardly gets a look, Brian Ching is not used for a year and when qualifying begins all of a sudden he is back on the team.
This is a clear sign of a coach who is over his head.

Rico looked TERRIBLE in the one friendly he played in. International play is too fast for him right now and he’s left making clumsy tackles to avoid getting beaten. He doesn’t deserve a spot on the team yet.
Jaqua made one roster (he wasn’t on the roster for Spain) and got a whole minute of play. Instead of assuming that because we didn’t get to see him play we don’t know how he can perform, maybe you should assume that we didn’t get to see him play because he couldn’t perform in training.
Remember how much better the US looked against Spain and Argentina than against England? Both of those players were left off the roster for those last 2 games.
Ching is a known commodity who started as recently as the Poland game in March for the Nats. There was no evaluation needed for him from the 3 friendlies and it was more important he be able to play with Dynamo.
Seems like more of a clear sign of a commenter in over his head.

Agree w/ Ryan on Ching.
Bradley knew what Ching and to a lesser extent Mastroeni and Hejduk can do and did not need friendlies to evaluate them. As it turns out the limited time Hejduk and Mastro got in the 3 game set actually reinforced Bradley’s view, and Eddie Lewis is another player I would have selected if just for his experience before these 3 games, but he certainly little to hurt himself in the friendlies.
I actually thought Ching may not be the only addition to the squad we didn’t see in the 3 friendlies. I had thought we may see a third keeper with experience like a Matt Reis or Joe Cannon as well, but Bradley seems assured that he can get by with two keepers which is alright because this is two matches. If it is a three match tournament he’d pick three keepers instead of two and a training keeper.
Re: Clark, recall Chris Klein, Steve Ralston, Richie Williams, Kerry Zavaghnan. We’ve had many midfielders have an extended run in the starting XI and then not get called in for a while because of one really bad performance. I think Clark is in that boat and with Mo Edu’s emergence, he’s now out of the mix for the foreseeable future.
Regarding Altidore, right now he is less valuable as far as qualifying then Ching. This decision will obviously be revisited before group play, but based on current form, and experience Ching would be the clear choice right now and the fact that Jozy is not fully fit makes that decision all the more easy for Bradley.

The upside for the Dynamo has been that Ching is finding his form again and the back of the net, the downside is that with his call-up, the Dynamo’s already shallow front gets all that more depleted.

I have a great deal of respect for your opinion and enjoy your show immensly but to somehow imply that Brian Ching is a better striker than Jozy Altidore is probably the stupidest thing you have ever said. Any manager who would pick Ching over Altidore as Bradley has is completely out of his depth at this level.

Kartik’s post gave the key when he said true strikers. The Mid-field contains any numbers of guys who can and will score. I for one am very impressed by the defensive line-up and believe we may have a group there that will all be in place for the WC in 2010. Ok, if we make it.
The offense still presents problems. Is Bradley still tinkering with the line-up. It seems he is. Can he get away with it at this stage. Yes he can. Is Altidore at full speed right now. He seems not to be. Will he be at the Summer games in China. Yes. Let me be the first if I can to make a point, for purposes of the growth of the game in the US, a medal by the mens team in the Olympics this year is hugely important. Despite all the worries about the early qualifying rounds we will get beyond those games this year. Americans are in love with the Olympics are a medal can greatly help the mens team image in the US.

I also wonder how you’ll change the team around if you need to. You’d think you might want to have a Nate Jaqua or Noonan to give you some size up front.

Our coaches would rather play second rate players who play the “right way” which means running around like a chicken with his head cut off than talented youngsters.
That’s why Altidore has been dropped ever since scoring a goal versus Mexico and Adu is relegated to 10 minute run outs at the end of matches despite showing the rest of the team up with his skill.
